In this review, we’ll be sizing up two of the most popular mattresses on the market: the Casper mattress and Leesa mattress. Both beds are built entirely of foam, but they have two totally distinct feels. So which is right for you?
Well folks, that’s what we’re here to find out. I’m going to compare and contrast every aspect of these two models, from their divergent constructions all the way to their unique feel profiles.
If you don’t have time to read my full comparison, you can jump down to my review summary.

Leesa vs Casper: Which is Better for You?
Depending on factors like your body weight, preferred sleeping position, and whether or not you sleep with a partner or pet, one of these mattresses may suit your needs better. Take a look at some of my recommendations below.
Who Should Buy the Casper
- If you struggle with back or shoulder pain, the Casper’s special zoned support system might help you alleviate some of your pain. This means there are different levels of firmness throughout the bed to promote spinal alignment. For example, the shoulder and feet areas are softer than the hip area.
- If you’re a side sleeper, I don’t think either mattress will be quite soft enough. However, the Casper’s zoned support system means it’s softer at the shoulders, so if you don’t mind a firmer feel, then this bed could work for you.
- The Casper sleeps pretty cool thanks to its perforated foam layer, making it a nice option for hot sleepers.

Who Should Buy the Leesa
- If you’re a back sleeper, you should really enjoy sleeping on the Leesa. It’ll offer the comfort and support you need.
- Leesa often runs generous promotions, so if you’re on a budget, this might be the mattress for you.
- If you’re a combination sleeper, the Leesa’s bouncier feel might give it an edge.

Casper vs Leesa: Similarities and Differences
Let’s take a look at the key similarities and differences between these two beds. I’d also encourage you to check out our full Casper mattress review and Leesa mattress review for more in-depth info.
Main Similarities
- Both are all-foam mattresses and could be nice options for back sleepers.
- Both mattresses sleep cool, which is a great perk for hot sleepers.
- Neither of these mattresses is a good choice for heavier sleepers. The best mattress for heavy people will often include innerspring coils or latex to provide more support.
- If you’re a stomach sleeper, I don’t think either of these mattresses will be firm enough to offer the support you need. I’d suggest opting for one of our best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
Differences
- The Casper uses a zoned support system (more on that below), so it will feel softer at the shoulders than the Leesa.
- The Casper is a little firmer than the Leesa, which could be nice for anyone who prefers a firmer feel.
- The Leesa is just a little cheaper than the Casper mattress, which could be an important deciding factor.

Casper and Leesa Mattress Feel Comparison
Now let’s get into detail about how these beds feel. A mattress will feel different to you depending on your body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position.
Casper
We gave the Casper a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firm is a 6.5 out of 10, so this bed-in-a-box has a slightly firmer feel. However, the Casper uses a zoned support system, which means this bed will feel firmer in the center, where you need extra support at the hips, and softer at the shoulders, where most people need extra pressure relief.
The extra sinkage at the shoulders might be nice for side and back combination sleepers, as they’ll enjoy a mix of support and relief that works well for spinal alignment and comfort in both positions. The extra sinkage might also make the original Casper feel more medium-firm than firm to certain sleepers.
Overall, the Casper has a balanced feel that should attract sleepers who switch positions often during the night. Because of the mix between pressure relief and support in sensitive areas, combo sleepers can find comfort in different positions.

Leesa
I gave the Leesa a 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale — making the Leesa a little less firm than the industry standard. I thought it provided good spinal alignment for strict back sleepers. The Leesa does include some memory foam for body-contouring and relief around your pressure points, but it doesn’t have that slow-moving, quicksand feel that some people may associate with memory foam.
The mix of support foams in this mattress means it should sleep nice and cool, which is a great feature for hot sleepers and couples. On the other hand, the Leesa doesn’t do a particularly good job isolating motion transfer, so if you sleep with an especially restless partner, you may want to opt for something that offers more sinkage.

Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Casper and the Leesa
As mentioned earlier, your body weight and preferred sleeping position will greatly dictate how a mattress feels to you. So, let’s go through how each bed could feel for the following sleepers:
Casper
Back — I really like the Casper for back sleepers! Its zoned support layer is softer at the shoulders and feet and firmer at the hips, which helps promote a neutral spinal alignment.
Side — I think the Casper is just ok for side sleepers. Generally, I’d recommend side sleepers opt for a softer bed, but the Casper’s zoned support helps it feel a bit softer at the shoulders, where side sleepers tend to put a lot of pressure.
Stomach — I don’t think the Casper is quite firm enough for stomach sleepers. Though its zoned support does make it firmer at the hips — where stomach sleepers need it — I’d steer most stomach sleepers to a firmer bed.
Body Weight — If you’re a lighter sleeper (less than 130 pounds), you’ll likely feel the Casper to be a little firmer than we did. Conversely, if you’re a heavy sleeper (over 250 pounds), you’re going to sink into the Casper more and it’ll feel softer. However, I don’t think the Casper is supportive enough for heavy people.

Leesa
Back — The Leesa is great for back sleepers. It feels just a bit softer than medium-firm, which is a sweet spot for back sleepers. It’ll give them plenty of lumbar support, while still providing some pressure relief at the lower back.
Side — I don’t think the Leesa has enough sinkage for strict side sleepers. I think these sleepers will experience some jamming at their shoulders. If you’re a side sleeper, I’d opt for a softer bed, like one of our best memory foam mattresses.
Stomach — I think the Leesa is a bit too soft for strict stomach sleepers. These sleepers need a firm mattress that’s going to keep their hips in line with their shoulders, which helps prevent back pain.
Body Weight — If you’re a lighter sleeper, this mattress will feel a bit firmer, and if you’re heavier, it will feel a bit softer. I don’t think the Leesa is supportive enough for heavy people. I recommend heavy people opt for a bed that was specifically designed for higher body weights.

Comparing Casper and Leesa Prices
Price point is a very important factor when deciding on a new mattress. Take a look at the table below to compare costs. And be sure to use our Leesa mattress coupon codes or Casper mattress coupon codes to get a good deal.

Comparing Casper and Leesa Mattress Materials
Now that you know how the Casper original and the Leesa feel, I want to pull back their layers to see the construction of each mattress in a detailed way, starting with the Casper.
Casper
Cover — The Casper has a thin polyester cover. This breathable material is relatively common in all-foam beds.
Comfort Layer — The top layer of the Casper contains a soft, open-cell foam that allows the sleeper to sink right in. Even with all this give, open-cell foam tends to retain its breathability, helping the Casper sleep cool.
Contour Layer — After the open-cell foam, a layer of memory foam provides contouring around the body and a feeling of sinking even further into the mattress. Memory foam tends to trap body heat, but the open-cell foam between this layer and the sleeper reduces this effect. This is a layer that is zoned for support in the hips while providing pressure relief at the shoulders.
Support Layer — Finally, the base of the Casper is made of high-density polyurethane foam. This is a firm layer that provides support to the softer layers above it.

Leesa
Cover — The Leesa’s cover is a durable and breathable twill fabric.
Comfort Layer — The comfort layer is constructed of 2” of breathable foam. This foam responds well to pressure and is very cooling, which is a nice perk for hot sleepers.
Transition Layer — Below the comfort layer, you’ll find a 2” layer of memory foam. This section offers body contouring and pressure relief, which is great for all sleepers.
Base Layer — The third layer of this mattress is built with 6” of support foam. This layer acts as the foundation of the bed and keeps everything in place.

Casper vs Leesa: Best Qualities
So, which bed is best for you? In case you’re still not sure, I put together a list of some of my favorite features of each mattress.
Casper Best Features
- The Casper’s zoned support system provides extra pressure relief that could be especially nice for sleepers who struggle with shoulder pain.
- The Casper has a balanced feel that should work well for combination sleepers — its mix of support and pressure relief should work well for most sleepers.
- Back sleepers should enjoy the mix of comfort and lift the Casper offers.

Leesa Best Features
- Strict back sleepers should enjoy the supportive nature of this mattress, and its memory foam layer should offer them some nice pressure relief at the lower back.
- If you are looking for a mattress that sleeps cool, the construction of the Leesa tends to draw heat away from the sleepers, even with its layer of memory foam.
- The Leesa is the slightly cheaper mattress option, which could be a big perk for some folks.

Comparing Casper and Leesa Customer Service
Below, I’ll give each brand’s customer service team a score based on our own personal experience interacting with them. Possible scores include stellar, great, satisfactory, and poor.
Leesa Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating
Satisfactory: We gave Leesa a satisfactory score because they didn’t have someone manning their phones or chat feature when we reached out. Their customer service team emailed us a very thoughtful response to my question (and returned our call), but we did have to wait for a response.
Casper Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating
Stellar: We gave Casper a Stellar rating because we were immediately paired with a very helpful agent who answered all our questions thoroughly. Our customer service representative was also helpful and transparent when we asked questions about navigating Casper’s warranty.
Comparing Other Models from Leesa and Casper
Both Casper and Leesa offer a few other models. You can find info on a few of these other mattresses below.
Casper Element
- The Casper Element is the company’s value option and has an overall firmer feel than the original Casper.
- That being said, it will likely work best for strict back and stomach sleepers who need support for spinal alignment.
- For more information check out our Casper Element mattress review.
I think this bed is a nice choice for couples (especially those on a budget). It is bouncy and responsive, but also isolates motion quite well, the two things you’ll want to tick off your list if you’re shopping with your partner
